WEETSLADE RELAYS 2026

WEETSLADE RELAYS (24/6/26)

Morpeth Harriers sent out twenty four athletes to face the dry heat, dusty trails and altitude that the Weetslade Relays offer. Organised by Claremont Road Runners, the club have a good record in participating in this early summer fixture and finished 3rd last year.  Comprising three legs of 2.7 miles, the route takes in the now reclaimed pit heap of the former Weetslade Colliery just east of Wideopen.  The shallow sloping sides of the hill are carpeted with grassland, scrub and woodland.  Each team must include a veteran and a woman. This year Morpeth entered eight teams including two all-women teams.  While the final results are still to be confirmed, early indications are that the team of Peter Smallcombe, Catriona MacDonald and Andrew Lawrence were first from the club to finish and 3rd overall with Smallcombe running a blistering 13m:13secs (sub 5 minute/mile pace).
