SEVERAL MORPETH HARRIERS SHINE IN SUNNY WHITLEY BAY AT THIRD NEYDL DIVISION 2 MATCH

The formidable pairing of Under 18 athletes Evan Baskerville and William Hodgson were the bright spots of Morpeth Harriers/Tyne Bridge performances at the third round NEYDL Division 2 fixture, held at Churchill Playing Fields, Whitley Bay on Sunday 21st June.

In the 100m, Baskerville won in 11.8s, very close to the time he had run at Hexham seven days previously, when making his Senior Debut.

Excellent B race support was shown by Hodgson when he won in 12.1s.

In the 200m A Race, Baskerville won in 23.8s, and Hodgson took the B Race in 24.2s.

Baskerville completed an excellent day’s work, and an individual winning hat-trick, when winning the Long Jump by producing an excellent 5.67m.

Club success also came in the Under 16 Boys Long Jump, which Daniel Vermaas won with a best of 5.50m.

Charlie Taylor placed third in the B competition with 3.46m, and an additional performer from the club was Jacob Thompson, who produced a best of 3.08m.

Vermaas also finished third in the Under 16 Boys 200m in 25.0s, with club colleague Oliver Storey finishing third in the B Race in 27.3s, and Charlie Taylor producing an additional performance of 28.76s.

Storey enjoyed his moment of individual glory, when winning the 300m Hurdles in 49.6s.

Morpeth did provide another Under 16 Boy winner in Oredeji Faybamiye, who triumphed in the High Jump with a superb clearance of 1.81m.

Faybamiye also finished third in the 100m, posting a very impressive 11.7s, only losing out for second by a whisker.

Oliver Storey finished third in the B race with a time of 13.3s.

Staying with the Under 16 Boys events, Jack Dhawar finished third in the 800m B Race in a time of 2m21.62s, and there were additional club performers here in Charlie Taylor (2m36.27s), and Jacob Thompson (2m45.98s).

Morpeth also had some Under 14 Boys amongst the day’s competitive action.

Best of these was Joseph Fawcett, who finished second in the A race of the 1500m in 4m43.09s.

Hector Ford Hutchinson won the 800m B race in 2m34.47s, and there were additional performances here from Morpeth Fair Day Fun Run winner William Fawcett (2m36.99s), Luke Thompson (2m39.22s), and Joseph Clasper (2m46.42s).

Recent transfer from Alnwick Harriers Seb Metcalfe, finished fifth in the Under 14 Boys 100m A Race in 14.1s.

Another debutant Max Caisley finished second in the B Race in 14.2s.

Caisley also finished fifth in the 200m A Race in 29.4s.

Joseph Clasper was second in the B Race with 29.8s.

Luke Thompson posted an additional time of 32.26s.

Seb Metcalfe added to his day by placing fourth in the Long Jump, with his best effort of 3.73m.

On to the Female events, where Under 16 Girl Sophie Peace produced good sprint performances in the 100m A Race finishing fourth in 14.4s, and third in the 200m A Race in 30.0s.

Making a sound debut as B support in both of these events was Jess Caisley, who was second in the 100m in 14.9s, and likewise in the 200m in 30.9s.

Other Under 16 Girl performers in the 200m were Heidi Wilkinson (32.31s), and Zoe Tomlinson (34.74s).

Cecily Findlay finished third in the Under 16 Girls 80m Hurdles in 16.9s.

She also finished fourth in the Triple Jump with a best of 8.28m.

In the Under 16 Girls 800m, Heidi Wilkinson finished sixth in the A Race in 2m28.49s.

Faye Heatley was fourth in the B Race in 2m36.74s.

Heatley also finished seventh in the 300m race in 50.3s, and fourth in the B String Long Jump with 3.71m.

An additional Morpeth performance in the Under 16 Girls Long Jump came from Sophie Peace (3.59m).

Zoe Tomlinson finished fifth in the Under 16 Girls Shot Putt with 4.08m.

In the Under 18 Women’s 800m, Charlotte Marshall finished third in 2m50.24s.

She also finished fourth in the 400m in 80.7s.

The Under 14 Girls 800m saw Morpeth’s Izzy Cromar finish fifth in 2m38.12s.

Morpeth/Tyne Bridge finished sixth of eight competing teams; however, points totals clearly show that they were not far short of finishing fourth or fifth.
