Two Morpeth Harriers made the long journey over the weekend to Leigh Sports Village in the North West, to compete in the Northern Athletics Under 14/Under 16 Track and Field Championships.
Under 16 Boy Charlie Townsend competed in the 100m on Saturday, unfortunately going out in the heats, posting a time of 12.32s.
Unfortunately, fellow Under 16 Boy Mason Gaylor found the going tough in what was the fastest of two finals in the 800m.
Instead of running heats, and then a later run final, the competition went to two finals, with the fastest three overall taking the medals.
He found himself completely run out of contention by the fast pace in his final, and emerged as tenth in his race with a time of 2m09.62s, around seven seconds adrift of his best, and seventeenth of nineteen taking part, a long way to travel, to end up disappointed.
It is hoped that Mason can pick himself up in time for the English Schools challenge in a couple of weeks’ time.
