Thirteen members of Morpeth Harriers & AC took part in events at the third meeting of the NEGP, held at Monkton Stadium, now affectionately known as then Steve Cram Stadium, on the evening of Wednesday 17th June.
Although the main events of the evening surrounded the Mile events, run in memory the late respected Gateshead Harriers coach Stan Long, where the A race was won by Gateshead Harrier Calum Johnson, who posted a winning time of 4m12.88s.
A strong finish by Johnson was required to shake off his club colleague Matthew Linsley, who had won the Silver Plate in 2024.
Linsley posted a time of 4m13.58s.
Morpeth Harriers in action in the A Race were Bertie Marr, who finished ninth in a season’s best of 4m23.72s, and Alistair Douglass, who was thirteenth in 4m26.20s, also a season’s best for the distance.
Joe Dixon of Morpeth Harriers posted a time of 4m31.26s, when finishing seventh in the B Race.
In the sixth fastest Mile event, Morpeth Under 16 Girl Heidi Wilkinson finished third, in a personal best time of 5m23.29s.
Under 14 Boy Hector Ford-Hutchinson of Morpeth Harriers finished fourth in the eighth fastest Mile event, in a time of 5m43.90s.
In the same race, Morpeth Under 18 Woman Charlotte Marshall finished eleventh in 6m23.84s.
Completing the Morpeth Mile performances were Under 14 brothers, Joseph and Will Fawcett.
Whilst Joseph was always going to finish second to Elvet Senior Man Andrew Westgarth in the ninth fastest race, where he posted a time of 5m13.56s, it was the slightly younger Will who caught the eye, as he snatched third place from Gosforth Harrier Robyn Bain, posting a time of 5m43.70s.
Another Morpeth Harriers performer who caught the eye was Senior Man Alastair Beasley, who finished second in the 400m C Race, posting a personal best time of 57.30s.
In the B Final of the 300m, Morpeth Under 16 Boy Charlie Taylor posted a personal best time of 45.50s, when finishing third.
Two Morpeth Harriers were in action in the 100m events.
Under 16 Boy Charlie Townsend finished fifth in the B Final in 12.16s, and Senior Women Ellie Wickens was third in the F Race in 13.68s.
Lucas Townsend, brother of Charlie, also an Under 16 athlete, finished eighth in the A Final of the Shot Putt, posting a best effort of 6.79m.
