Morpeth Boys Compete Well At U13 Relays

Morpeth Harriers Under 13 Boys finished fifth of ten competing teams at the annual Birtley
AC Cross Country Relays, held at Lord Lawson School on Sunday, an event which also for
this year, incorporated the NECAA Championships.
All three members of the squad were competing at this level for the first time, and acquitted
themselves very well, especially first leg runner Will Fawcett, who finished sixth on his leg,
posting what eventually emerged as the 13th fastest time of 6.04s for the 1.25mile
circuit.
Second leg runner Michael Madgewick managed to move the squad up to fifth with his
determined effort of 6.28s, and third and final leg runner Joseph Fawcett managed to retain
the position throughout by clocking 6.14s, which was the seventeenth fastest overall.
The other considerations to make are, that they were also up against several athletes who
were possibly a year older, and for the three lads concerned, it can go down as a really fine
achievement, and a great tribute to the sterling work put in by their coaches at the club.
