Long Jumper Jack Breaks Club Record In Croatia
One of Morpeth Harriers' longest held club records was broken earlier this month, when International Long Jumper Jack Roach, jumped 7.64m to win the Salix Sub Astra competition, held in Vrbovec in Croatia.
Roach, returned to his hometown club a few months ago, following spells with Harrow, and Newham and Essex Beagles, mainly for competition in the high profile British League, but even after spells firstly with Gateshead Harriers, and Middlesbrough AC, he always felt that he would wish to compete for Morpeth.
He will actually get that wish, when on Saturday 19 July, barring any injury problems, he will turn out for them, at their final NESDL Division 1 match at Shildon.
For the statisticians, the club record he broke, was the long-standing Men’s Long Jump best, achieved by Dave Deacon in 1994 in Cannock in the British League, where he jumped 7.00m.
It is hoped that Roach may break his own record, when competing at Shildon, it would mark a splendid league debut.
