Ian Armstrong pushed himself through the pain barrier to complete the 55k Ultra North 2024 on Saturday, over a meandering course that started and finished at the Swing Bridge but then went out West along the Tyne to Wylam before venturing into the Derwent Valley and Chopwell Woods.
Won by Rowan Hodgson in 4: 31:24, Ian had a great run to come home in 4th place in 4:58:33, but later commented: ‘How I kept going through the pain barrier I haven’t got a clue. The ten minutes after crossing the finish line are just a vague blur.’
Well done Ian, you’ll recover!
