The fourth meeting in the 2026 North Eastern Grand Prix (NEGP) series, took place at Jarrow’s Monkton Stadium, now known as the Steve Cram Stadium, took place on the evening of Wednesday 15th July, and nineteen athletes from Morpeth Harriers were amongst the many who competed.
Josh Fiddaman provided the club with their best result of the night, when winning the fastest of two 3000m, producing s personal best time of 8m25.95s.
Considering that Josh has spent a good part of the Track and Field season nursing an injury, his performance here was pretty commendable.
Also competing in the same 3000m final was club colleague Peter Smallcombe, who had shared some of the early lead duty, alongside Fiddaman, and Western Tempo athlete Luke Davis.
Smallcombe eventually finished third, also posting new figures of 8m29.58s.
Morpeth had three competitors in the second fast race.
First of these was Andrew Mirfield, who ran well to finish a close second to Tyne Bridge Harrier Sam Wood.
Mirfield also posted new figures of 9m08.23s, as did fellow Morpeth Harrier Ollie Tomlinson, who clocked 9m08.61s.
Tomlinson had led the field through the early part of the seven and a half lap race, a field that also included Under 16 Girl Heidi Wilkinson.
Wilkinson came through to also post new figures of 10m25.35s, and she was the first home of five Under 16 Girls in the event.
In the fastest 800m event, Morpeth Harriers Ellis Hetherington, Alistair Douglass, and Joseph Close, finished in third, fourth, and eighth places, respectively.
Hetherington posted a season’s best of 1m55.42s, Douglass also posted a season’s best of 1m56.14s, and Close clocked a time of 2m01.43s.
Morpeth Under 16 Boy Mason Gaylor produced an excellent 2m03.69s in his 800m, finishing in second place to Under 18 athlete Jack Ord from Hartlepool.
Other Morpeth Harriers in the 800m events were, Senior Man Alastair Beasley, who finished eleventh in the D race in 2m11.93s, Under 16 Boy Charlie Taylor, who was eighth in the G race in 2m25.54s, and Charlotte Marshall and Jess Holman, who were seventh and eleventh respectively in the K race, posting times of 2m48.23s, and 2m56.68s.
Five Morpeth Harriers took part in the 200m events.
Under 16 Boys Charlie Townsend and Daniel Vermaas both produced personal best performances when placing second and third in the D race, posting respective times of 24.72s, and 24.95s.
Another Morpeth Harrier competing in the D race was Under 16 Girl Sophie Pledger, who posted a season’s best of 26.27s.
Morpeth Veteran Ben Harding finished second in the F race, posting a time of 26.07s.
In the G race, Senior Woman Ellie Wickens finished fourth in 27.64s.
On to Field events, and Under 16 Morpeth Harrier Lucas Townsend finished twelfth in the B Final of the Shot Putt, producing a best effort of 6.44m.
Daniel Vermaas produced a personal best effort of 5.62m in the B Final of the Long Jump.
