EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE BY MORPETH MEN IN SUTTON PARK - BUT JUST ADRIFT OF MEDALS
· George Patterson
While Cambridge and Coleridge proved to be runaway winners of today's ERRA Men's 6 Stage Road Relay in Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, in a time of 1hr35m21s, Morpeth Harriers & AC did well to finish fifth, and second from the North of England behind fourth placed Salford Harriers, who placed fourth, and only twenty eight seconds time difference between them.
The Morpeth squad, comprising of Finn Brodie, Lawrence McCourt, Sam Hancox, Chris Coulson, Carl Avery, and Ellis Hetherington, with their combined time of 1hr37m28s, were only a mere eighty seconds adrift of a medal winning placing.
Second and third team placings also went to Southern based clubs Tonbridge, and performance based Western Tempo.
Northern Champions Leeds City will feel disappointed with their placing of seventh, and being third from the North on this occasion.
They also lost out on the Women's title, being pipped by fellow Northerners Vale Royal.
Fastest performer on the day for Morpeth was second leg runner Lawrence McCourt, who produced a time of 15m47s, which also proved to be the fastest of the leg.
Just outside the medals, but nevertheless a very courageous team effort.
